Relationship and Marriage Counseling
I am Cricket Evans, your therapist. I have been married for 33 years. Yes, to the same man. I have one adult daughter.

I know that all of us want to be loved and cared for by the person we select as our husband, wife, significant other, or partner. We want to enjoy the comfort, support, intimacy and fun that a close committed relationship should bring.

Sadly, in our complex and stressful world, our most important relationships can get off track.  The problems can seem overwhelming. Don't give up. I am here to help.

How Relationship and Marriage Counseling Work:

Are you concerned that the therapist is going to judge you? Are you worried that you are going to be blamed or criticized in the sessions?  Therapy is not about placing blame. It's about positively transforming the relationship.

Are you afraid of "other people knowing your personal business?" Relationship or marriage counseling at A Better Day is private and confidential. So are e-mail and telephone communications. No receptionists, no clerks, no answering service, no lobby filled with people. You receive private and individual attention from me, Cricket Evans, your therapist.

My mission is to keep couples together. My goal is to help both of you learn new ways of thinking and behaving toward each other, to improve your relationship. Most of the time each of you will have individual things you are working on, as well as some "couples" goals.

At best, I prefer that both people come to all the couples or marriage counseling sessions. When both of you are present, we can work on the issues together.  One person doesn't have to wonder "What did they say about me in the session they had today." This is the ideal, but it doesn't work for every couple. I will see one member of the couple individually when necessary.

What if your husband, wife or significant other refuses to come to couples or marriage counseling? Individuals do come to counseling alone to work on their relationship. Can one person in counseling change their relationship? The answer is yes, sometimes.

Many "couples" issues are negative patterns of perceiving and communicating, over and over again. Always getting poor results: anger, frustration, and hurt feelings. When one person changes their
reactions, perceptions and approaches toward the couples interactions, often the other person makes positive changes in response. Negative patterns that took two people, can often be changed by one person deciding to change first.

Why suffer any longer? Don't give up. Couples or marriage counseling is a valuable investment in your relationship. Be hopeful about your future, and get the help you need today. Possibly making your relationship better than it ever was!
